Please be advised that a Special Council Meeting has been convened for TUESDAY 07 JANUARY 2024 commencing at 4.30pm in the Goomalling Shire Council Chamber.

This fire season is shaping up to be a busy one, with several large incidents already affecting our Shire and neighbouring areas. Fires can be overwhelming and frightening, but following these steps ensures our bushfire volunteers can act quickly and effectively.

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) is declared on days when fires are most likely to threaten lives and property. This is because of predicted extreme fire weather or when there are already widespread fires and firefighting resources are stretched.

The Wheatbelt Business Network in collaboration with the Northam Chamber of Commerce has just been approved for funding through Tourism WA to roll out short course training programs for the HOSPITALITY & TOURISM sectors in early 2025 in Northam.

In February 2025, the Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc – Avon Branch will be hosting the Avon LiveLighter Aged Care Games at the Northam Recreation Centre. The Aged Care Games provide an excellent opportunity for seniors in ‘care’ situations to experience team participation and light competition, as well as social interaction, through adapted games in a community recreation facility.

Did you know that over 10% of the water used in homes is from flushing your toilet? The type of toilet you have can make a big difference in water savings. Older, single-flush toilets are very inefficient, using 12 litres (L) of water per flush compared to a WELS 4-star dual-flush toilet that uses 4.5 L for a full flush and 3 L for a half flush. Shire of Goomalling marks a decade of Success in prisoner reintegration. For over ten years, the Shire of Goomalling has been working hand in hand with the Department of Justice to offer prisoners from the Dowerin Work Camp a unique opportunity to rebuild their lives while contributing to the community

The Shire of Goomalling is doing a Christmas Look and Find activity for the kids. There are 25 peeking characters that have been hidden around town for kids to find, once the list is completed, they receive a small gift.

Two dedicated members of Wheatbelt NRM, Rob Boase and Wayne Clarke, were inducted into the WA Landcarers Hall of Fame at a ceremony held on 1 November 2024 at the Cockburn Wetlands Centre.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) conducted a review of 3 children, youth and parenting programs delivered under the Families and Children (FaC) Activity to determine their effectiveness. Consultation on these findings is now open.

The Goomalling War Memorial Swimming Pool will open for the 2024 / 2025 Season from Wednesday 20th November 2024

A Locum Doctor will be available at the Goomalling Medical Centre On the following days during the month of December 2024

Due to testing, that won’t be completed until Monday 18th November lunch time, the pool will not be opening on Monday at this stage.

BreastScreen WA’s FREE screening mammogram service is coming to Goomalling from 17/12/2024 to 06/01/2025. Women 40 years and over with no symptoms are eligible for a FREE screening mammogram.
