Sport and fitness

Goomalling is a very sporty community, with plenty of activities to choose from and facilities to use, many based at the recreation ground on the corner of Quinlan and Lockyer St.

Football

FootballGoomalling has an attractive grassed football oval at the recreation ground with Auskick (5-8yo) and Nippers (9-13yo) footy for the kids and two men's teams, a League and Reserve side. Goomalling is part of an eight-team league, battling against Toodyay, Gingin, Dowerin-Wyalkatchem, Wongan-Ballidu, Dalwallinu and Calingiri for the flag in the Mortlock Football League. Goomalling and Wongan Hills hold the finals every year, alternating the grand final. Games are played on Sundays from April through to September.

Netball

Goomalling has two netball courts at the recreation ground. There is a mid-week team who play in Wongan Hills on Thursday nights and a Sunday team who play in the Mortlock Netball Association, together with Football and Hockey.

Goomalling Junior Netball has a team of girls and boys who follow the footy and hockey fixtures in the Mortlock Netball Association. Training is after school at the Goomalling Recreation Ground and games are played on Sundays. Net-Set-Go is designed for 5-8 year-old girls and boys to develop children's fine and gross motor skills, ball, foot and movement skills across the court in a fun and interactive way. This 6-week programme runs at the start of the winter sport season, depending on interest. The annual junior winter sports registration day is held at the start of April each year.

HockeyHockey

Goomalling has three teams in the Mortlock Hockey League whose games are played on Sundays from April through to September. 

Minkey is an adapted version of hockey for boys and girls aged 5 to 8. Junior Hockey is open to girls aged 9 - 15 and boys aged 9-13. The annual junior winter sports registration day is held at the start of April each year.

Tennis

Goomalling has six tennis courts under lights at the recreation ground, as well as courts at Konnongorring and Jennacubbine. 

As well as social tennis (depending on numbers), club open days are held throughout the year and the Goomalling Tennis Club Pennant teams play in the Moore District zone and the Avon District zone. The Goomalling tennis courts may be hired free of charge through the Shire on (08) 9629 1101.

Cricket

The Goomalling cricket club plays against Dowerin, West Yorkrakine, Wongan Hills, Ballidu, Koorda and Cadoux in the Wyalkatchem Cricket Association. Training takes place at the cricket nets at the Goomalling Recreation Ground.

  • The men's team trains at 5.30pm Wednesdays and Fridays, and play on Saturdays from October to March. New players welcome. 
  • 9-13 year olds can play 25 overs per side games for Goomalling in the Mortlock Junior Cricket Association on Saturday mornings. There is one practise session each week and the season runs from October till March. Contact Steve Lord 0429 201 262
  • Woolworths Junior Blasters for 5-8 year olds focuses on basic cricket skills including catching, throwing and teamwork during their weekly training session. Call Brendon Wilkes on 0427 044 818 for details.

Bowls

The Goomalling ladies', men's, social and corporate lawn bowls are held at the synthetic bowling green at the Goomalling Sport & Community Centre on the corner of Lockyer and Quinlan St.

Swimming

Goomalling Swimming Club provides swimming coaching to develop members' swimming potential while emphasising sportsmanship, team spirit and fun. Being a non-competitive club the focus lays on individual improvement which is assessed through weekly time trials.

The season runs from November to March, with coaching sessions on Mondays from 3.30-4.30pm and time trials on Thursdays 5.30-6.15pm.

Karate

Wheatbelt Wado Ryu Karate club is a subsidiary branch of the WA Wado Ryu Karate Federation that has been operating since the early 80s. The Goomalling branch was established by Sensei Kristina Perrin (black belt 2nd dan) to introduce the discipline of karate to the Wheatbelt communities east of Northam.

The club runs classes every Tuesday in the Town Hall on the corner of Quinlan and Hoddy St.

  • 5.30-6.15pm: Little Samurai (under 9)
  • 6.15-7.15pm: Intermediate 9 years + (any belt)
  • 7.15-8.15pm: Advanced

There are two go-kart clubs in Goomalling: one at Jennacubbine and one in the Goomalling townsite.

The Goomalling Go-Kart Club was formed in 2000 with about 14 members. Today their numbers have grown to 33 senior members and 11 junior members. They race as part of the Wheatbelt Association which includes the Dowerin, Bencubbin, Wongan Hills and Jurien Bay clubs. The club has a friendly atmosphere and its members are willing to help anyone who is new to go-karts.

The Jenna Kart Club is located in picturesque Jennacubbine, not far from the Jennacubbine Tavern. The club says that Karting is a fantastic sport for the whole family and that their club promotes friendship, fun and participation. Once you start, you'll be hooked!

Golf

Golf Course Layout

Goomalling Golf Club, opened on 21 July 1915, is an attractive 18-hole course with sand greens, driving range and a comfortable club house. It is located on the Goomalling-Calingiri Rd, just minutes from the Goomalling townsite.

New members and visitors are welcome to join in our competitions or have a social game at other times during the April – September season. The course is only closed to the public when the club is hosting major events.

For social golfers, an honesty box is located in the meter box on the front verandah of the club house where green fee envelopes and cards are located.  Pay your green fees before you play and keep your receipt with you at all times. The club house is unattended most of the time, so all enquiries should be directed to the Club Secretary on (08) 9629 1034.

Recreation Hub Master Plan

This master plan provides the vision for the recreation site site and the associated facilities and services, identifying what it should look like and how it should function into the future. It establishes a strong and consistent direction, providing a framework for ongoing improvement.

The plan is a living document that sets the foundation for further planning and will evolve with the changing needs of the community. The plan will drive project development for each component including further consultation and detailed planning prior to implementation.
