The Vacant Property Rental Incentive Scheme aims to support people looking for a rental home in WA. It is designed to boost the supply of housing across the state by adding up to an additional 1,000 residential properties that would otherwise be sitting vacant and unused onto the long-term rental market.
Announced by the State Government as part of the 2024-25 Budget, the scheme provides grants of $5,000 to owners of vacant residential properties who transfer their property to the long-term rental market for at least 12 months.
The State Government and Water Corporation would like to inform and encourage potential eligible property owners to apply for the incentive.
Your property is eligible if:
- the property has been vacant and owned by you for the entire vacancy period – 8 November 2023 to 7 May 2024.
- the property is a single, self-contained property, not an ancillary dwelling (e.g. granny flat) or spare room.
- you enter into a residential tenancy agreement for at least 12 months, with the tenancy commencing by 6 November 2024.
Further information including frequently asked questions and how to apply is available on the
WA Government website.
